An interview with Rev. Wesley Menke
Why did you join the Digital Ministry Coaching Program?
We joined the digital ministry coaching program because we wanted more than a brochure website that would quickly become dated. We wanted to form a team that would actively update the website as a ministry.
What problem were you looking to solve?
We were facing a challenge of getting the word out about Grace Lutheran Church, who we are, and how we could be an important part of people’s lives.
What was your biggest takeaway from the program?
The content you create shapes what your are relevant about. So we strive to share content about God and God’s grace.
Tell us about the changes you’ve seen with the preschool.
Our preschool has been blessed to always get a good amount of attention and leads. However, preschools often fall into two different categories–highly academic and structured, or parochial religious. In the past, many leads were unhappy the we were either not academic enough, or not religious enough. Now, our leads are better qualified; they know we are faith and play-based [and] welcoming to diversity.
Do you have any advice for future coaching students?
Do your homework! Those projects force you to encounter the problems you will hit when the coaching is over. Best to “fail fast” so that you can learn and adapt.
